The Golden Globes

It was previously announced that Simon Baker, Drew Barrymore and Sacha Baron Cohen would co-host The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards together and now it’s been announced that Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler and Seth Rogen will join them.

The show is to be telecast live on NBC Sunday, January 11 (8 - 11 P.M. EST) at The Beverly Hilton.

A good reason to tune in is to see Steven Spielberg be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.” A worthy recipient, I’m sure you’ll agree.

What I’ve always found to be of worth in The Golden Globes is the fact they give out awards for both movies and TV shows. Although they have some pretty dumb categories, such as “Best Musical or Comedy” (what in the heck do those two have to do with one another?!), it’s a unique opportunity to honor both entertainment mediums within the one award show.

Just a quick note on the nominees: I sure hope that some of the truly worthy films/people get awarded, instead of awards just being given to people for the sake of it or because it feels like they’re owed something. I’d love to see Angelina Jolie pick up the award for Best Actress (she really was phenomenal in Changeling) and I’d be delighted if they recognized and awarded Happy-Go-Lucky for both the feature and Best Actress in the Musical or Comedy category (what a lovely, charming film that is). I think the absolute shoe-in is WALL-E for Best Animated Film (which I happen to wholeheartedly agree with). Overall it’s a solid set of nominations - for the full list of the nominees go here.

As far as the presenters go I think with the exception of Jennifer Lopez (I’m sure I’m not alone in just not liking her) they’re all solid choices. Amy Poehler is always a good choice, as are Rogen and Cohen; I’m guessing they want to keep it very light and comedic this year.

What do you make of the choices for presenters? Are you a fan of all of them, if not which ones are you not a fan of?
